Victoria diver takes bronze for Team BC in Winnipeg

Coral Strugnell (Victoria) took the bronze medal in the 3-metre springboard on Tuesday at the Pan Am Pool.  Coming to Winnipeg, she was hoping to finish in the top five in the preliminary competition. She was surprised and very excited to have placed second, which meant she would dive second to last in the final.

When asked if she had expectations for the final, she said: “No, I just wanted to have fun and enjoy the competition. Finishing in third place is great.” Strugnell completed her dives with a score of 299.10, 10.05 points behind the gold medallist from Ontario and four points behind the silver medallist from Alberta.

Jessie Nowotny (Langley), the other BC diver in the final, finished 12th overall, with a score of 199.45.

Alison Komlos (West Vancouver) and Tanesha Lucoe (Victoria) ranked 20th and 21st respectively.

Diving continues on Wednesday with the men’s 3-metre springboard event.
