Three wins for Wrestling to start team competition
Team BC started the team dual meet competition in Wrestling on Wednesday. This first day of team competition saw Team BC square off against three other provinces. Each 11 members of the men’s and women’s team takes on the corresponding weight class member of the opposing province.
For the women, Team BC took on Team PEI, Team Quebec, and Team New Brunswick and won each dual handily.
The men took on Team Nunavut, Team PEI, and Team New Brunswick and also won each dual by a large margin.
Part of the dominance of Team BC in this early round competition was due to the absence of an entire team of 11 athletes for the other provinces.
Team BC will continue the team dual competition Thursday morning and then the top four teams will square off for the medal rounds on Thursday evening.
QUOTES:
PATTISON, Connor (New Westminster)
On starting the wrestling competition
“For the most part we are starting really strong, there is energy so I think we are going to be good. We are excited for tomorrow because that is when we get really into it. We have a feel for the venue now so that is helpful.”
On the Canada Games experience
“We are not used to this atmosphere because wrestling in Canada isn’t that big we don’t usually get this team aspect. When you are with a team and competing for a team and competing for your province, it is awesome.”
BHATHA, Jocelyn (Vancouver)
On her match against Team Quebec
“For the second match my adrenalin was really high and I was just ready to go out there and wrestle. I wanted to wrestle another match right away. Our team did really well against Team Quebec.”
