Team BC Volleyball starts with two wins and a loss

Volleyball – Women Game 1
Team BC 3 PEI 0 (25-12, 25-11, 25-15)

Team BC’s women’s volleyball had a strong outing with a dominant first set 25-12. Captain Kiera Van Ryk’s (Surrey) serves had Team PEI guessing and had three straight aces.

Team BC took the second set 25-11. Danika Cowie (Surrey) had some key blocks and kills, then served out to finish the set.  Team BC went onto win the third set 25-15.

The team had 20 service aces and 7 team blocks total throughout the match. Sydney Grills (#10, outside hitter, Vancouver) attacked at a 60% kill efficiency while Sadie Taylor – Parks (#15, middle, Kelowna) attacked at a 67% kill efficiency.

On how she thought the first game went
“For our first game I thought it went well, we got over any nerves and supported each other”. The atmosphere was great, all of the people here cheering parents, grand parents and other athletes, it’s unlike anything we’ve been a part of before.”

Volleyball- Women Game 2:  Team Sask 3 Team BC 1 (25-20, 23-25, 25-21, 25-17)
The women’s team played Team Saskatchewan on Monday evening in a tough four set battle.  

Volleyball – Men Game 1 
Team BC 3  Team Yukon 0 (25-10, 25-15, 25-10)

Team BC men’s volleyball team had a strong outing with a straight set win over Team Yukon at the Sport for Life Centre.

After starting out slow with a 5-5 start the Team BC side started to dominate the game and handily took three sets in a row.

Zixiao Zao (Richmond) had a very strong game.

“It was a good opener.  It was a younger team so I think that was a good start for us just to get used to it.”
