Team BC puts in a good effort in short track

By Tyla Flexman, Team BC Mission Staff

Today was another great day of short track speed skating at the Lakewood Dental arena.  Once again, the competitive 1000m races were dominated by Team Quebec but Team BC’s athletes put forward good performances.

Cormac Chui (Vancouver) captured Team BC’s best performance of the day finishing eighth overall.  He was followed by teammates Chris Poljer-So (New Westminster) in 14th, Anton Shekhter (Burnaby) in 19th, Alexander Chizawksy (Abbotsford) in 23rd and William Park (Langley) in 30th.  When asked how he felt about today Poljer-So said, “I’m really happy with how today went.  Now we’re getting focused on the next race and looking forward to the 3000m relay.”

On the girl’s side, local athlete Alison Desmarais (Vanderhoof) was Team BC’s strongest skater finishing 13th overall.  She was closely followed by teammates Callie Swan (Prince George) in 18th, Maria Kim (Coquitlam) in 19th, Amy Cave (Port Moody) in 20th and Alyssa Skaalid (Enderby) in 23rd.

As we near the last two days of competition the athletes have been able to soak in the multisport experience.  Swan commented on the experience thus far saying, “it’s been really cool getting to watch other sports and having the pins to trade makes it easy to meet other athletes!”

Tomorrow’s events will be the 3000m points and relay.
