Team BC judo athletes ready to throw down tomorrow

By Jonathan Wornell, Team BC Mission Staff

After hitting the ground running in Prince George three days ago, Team BC’s judo team is feeling good about the start of competition tomorrow at the Charles Jago Sports Centre.

“We’ve got 14 great kids, ready and eager to fight this week,” says head coach, Bruce Kamstra.  “They’ve had a few good days of preparation, including time at the venue, and they all seem excited and motivated,” Kamstra continues.

Team BC has athletes competing in all 14 weight categories, and according to all of the team coaches, there’s a good chance Team BC will medal in many of them.

“I’ve been looking forward to this moment for 3 years and now it’s finally here.  All the extra hours of training are finally going to pay off, and I’m so excited,” says -63kg athlete Lavanna Laass (Prince George).

Team BC starts competition tomorrow at 1 p.m. at the Charles Jago Sports Centre.  Tomorrow’s competition will feature athletes in the individual men’s -60kg, -66kg, -73kg, and the women’s -48kg, -52kg, -57kg, and -63kg weight classes.  The gold medal finals will start at 5 p.m.
