Team BC gymnastics earns five medals on final day of competition

Team BC gymnastics won five medals in the individual events on Thursday. Shallon Olsen (Surrey) led the way for the Team BC, winning three medals: silver in floor and vault and bronze in uneven bars. Olsen also placed fourth in beam. Olsen’s teammates also qualified for individual event finals. Ilka Juk (Coquitlam) placed eighth in beam. Haley de Jong (Port Coquitlam) placed eighth in uneven bars. Clair Kaji (Vancouver) placed sixth in floor and Itzia San Roman (Burnaby) placed eighth in vault. Olsen’s three individual event medals bring her total to five medals from the 2015 Canada Winter Games.
Team BC men’s gymnastics captain, Aaron Mah (Vancouver), captured two medals in his individual event finals. Mah won gold in floor and silver in the horizontal bar. Mah also placed fourth in rings and fifth in vault. Three other men’s gymnastic team members also qualified for individual event finals. Michael Sibley (North Vancouver) placed fifth in rings, Steven Chaplain (Mission) placed fourth in parallel bars and eighth in vault. Cam Stanley (Cultus Lake) placed seventh in the horizontal bar. Mah’s two individual event medals bring his total to three medals from the Games.
