Team BC goes pink to support Pink Shirt Day

Today is Pink Shirt Day in British Columbia and Team BC athletes, coaches, managers and mission staff currently at the 2015 Canada Winter Games are taking a moment to join the movement and stand up against bullying.

“I’m proud of the impact Pink Shirt Day has had in raising awareness about bullying in B.C. – but we have a lot more work to do,” said Premier Christy Clark. “We all need to do our part in making clear that we won’t tolerate bullying in our schools, homes and workplaces.”

We know that involvement in sport builds self confidence, teamwork, and positive relationships.  Research also shows that positive mentorship and involvement in sport activities are effective measures to prevent bullying.

Team BC athletes and coaches are role models and leaders in their sport and in their home communities and so are joining together today to wear pink shirts at the Canada Winter Games, spreading the important message to stand up against bullying.

“Team BC makes it a priority at every Games to think beyond the competition and to contribute to a social legacy,” said Rob Needham, Team BC Chef de Mission. “Seeing Team BC sporting pink instead of blue today at the Canada Winter Games will make a strong statement of the importance of this campaign and to stand up against bullying.”
