Team BC finishes second in curling pool play

This morning Team BC faced Team Saskatchewan in their final game of pool play.  Both teams started the game with a record of 4-1.  The game would not only break the tie but determine who each team would play in the quarterfinals.

Team BC started the game with a steal of one in the first end followed by Team Saskatchewan getting a point in the second and third ends.  After a big score of three in the fourth, it seemed that we had the momentum in the game.  Team Saskatchewan was held to one in the fifth and Team BC took another two points in the sixth to take a three-point lead.  Control of the game play remained in Team BC’s hands and the seventh end was blanked.  A difficult eighth end for Team BC allowed Team Saskatchewan to score three and tie up the game with only two ends to go.  In the ninth, Team BC attempted the blank but stuck around in the house and instead took a point.  Heading into the tenth and final end, Team BC was up one without the hammer.

When it came down to Team BC’s final stone, Team Saskatchewan was sitting shot in the four-foot, with Team BC frozen on top and another of Team Saskatchewan’s rocks in the eight-foot.  The call was for Team BC to tap back one of their rocks at the top of the house onto the frozen rock on the four-foot.  The tap was made but the shooter rolled out.  All Team Saskatchewan needed to do for the win was remove Team BC’s lone rock in the house and they would score multiple points.  However, their rock didn’t curl and ended up flying by, giving Team BC a surprise steal and the win.

The win over Team Saskatchewan means Team BC finished second in their pool.  In the other pool, there was a three-way tie for third place between Team Quebec, Team Manitoba and Team New Brunswick.  Two tiebreakers are in order to determine which team Team BC will play in the quarterfinals tomorrow at noon.
