Team BC defeated by Team Quebec in packed Kin Arena

Fans were packed into Kin 2 on Thursday night to watch Team BC take on Team Quebec in hockey quarterfinals of the 2015 Canada Winter Games. The game started out fast paced and both teams equally hungry for the win. Team BC was the first to get on the scoreboard with a goal by Chase Stevenson (West Kelowna) and assists from Jordan Robinson (Kelowna). Justin Almeida (Kitimat) added to the lead four minutes later with another goal to bring the score to 2-0. Team Quebec responded less than a minute later with a goal to bring the first period to a close, 2-1 for Team BC.
The second period was Team Quebec’s time to shine. Though shots were relatively close (15-11 for Team Quebec), they capitalized on them and scored four unanswered goals. At the end of two periods, Team Quebec led 5-2.
Team BC came out strong in the third but it was too little, too late. James Malm (Langley) notched a power play goal, five minutes into the period and it seemed that the win might have been within reach. Team BC’s Jordan Bellerive (North Vancouver), Almeida, Robinson and Michael Rasmussen (Surrey) all had great chances in the third, including a couple of posts, but they just were not able to bury it. In the third, Team BC outshot Team Quebec 12-6.
Team Quebec scored into an open net with 9.3 seconds remaining to secure their spot in the semi-final game on Friday. Team BC will play Team New Brunswick at 4 p.m. on Friday in Kin 2 for the relegation round.
