Team BC cyclists dominate on first day of competition

On the first day of competition Team BC cyclists took home five of six medals in the Individual Time Trial event, setting the stage for three more exciting days of racing.

Riding a difficult course, Team BC cyclists shifted into high gear, dominating the field.

“Today was a great day for the entire team. All of the athletes really rode well. Everyone on the team proved to themselves that their hard work and dedication in training over the spring and summer was worth it,” said Kurt Innes, Team BC cycling coach. “The course today was very tough, really challenging each athlete to dig deep.”

The women’s podium sweep saw Erin Atwell win gold, with Kelsey MacDonald taking the silver and Emily Handford the bronze. For the men, Brendan Armstrong won silver and Jackson Pickell took home the bronze.

The action continues tomorrow with the Road Race event.
