Team BC baseball recap – July 31
Alberta 12, BC 7
In Monday’s opening game against Alberta, BC fell by a score of 12 to 7. BC got on the bats earlier than they have all week, putting up a pair of runs in the first two innings and pulling into a 5-2 lead after 2 and a half innings. Madgik Mackenzie (Vancouver) was throwing well, but a few miscues in the field, gifted Alberta with some critical extra outs.
While BC ultimately ,wasn’t able to match Alberta offensively, it was a much tighter game than the 1st one these two teams played. Jayden Knight (Langley) went 2/3 at the plate, while also crossing the plate two times for BC.
Coach Jamie Bodaly stated after the game “We need to do a much better job of supporting our pitchers, bear down in the field a little bit in the field,” said coach James Bodlay (Abbotsford) after the game. “We’re going to regroup and be ready to go for our next game”
BC 13, QC 8
In the second game of the day, Team BC rallied to a come-from-behind win 13-8 over Quebec.
Down 8-1 early, BC didn’t quit and raised up their bench chatter, and the baseball gods rewarded them with a few seeing-eye singles and timely Quebec errors mixed in with their solid hitting. BC batted around in the 5th inning, tallying a whopping 11 runs to take a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.
Daniel Gernon had a great day at the plate, going 4/5 with 4 RBI’s. Josh Laukkanen (Nanaimo) picked up a win in relief. The win secures BC a spot in the playoff bracket.

On securing a spot in the playoff bracket
“We picked up our level of chatter today and it energized the team. Hopefully this win will get the boys fired up for a deep playoff run.”
