Team BC athletes win two medals in para discus

On the field at the University of Manitoba Stadium, the men’s Para discus final saw medal finishes for Team BC on day one of the athletics competition at the Canada Summer Games. 

Dakoda Darling’s (Grand Forks) throw of 30.81 metres earned him 527 points and a gold medal in men’s discus. Teammate Eddy Solla (Chilliwack) will join him on the podium with a bronze medal after a throw of 21,49m and 273 points. For the women, Jessye Brockway (Mill Bay) threw 19.76 metres to score 478 points, finishing fourth. 

It was a successful day for Team BC Special Olympics athletes, with all four qualifying for their A Finals in the 100m. The top result was for Malcom Borsoi (Surrey) who posted a personal best time of 11.92, qualifying in second place overall.

Also on the track, BC’s Para men ran the heats of the 400m wheelchair. Sedrick Skabar (Port Coquitlam) finished his heat with a time of 1:02.74, enough to qualify for the A Final.
