Special Olympics BC Team Set for 2015 Western Canada Summer Games
Story from Special Olympics BC
Congratulations to the eight athletes and four coaches selected to represent Special Olympics BC at the Western Canada Summer Games 2015 Wood Buffalo!
The SOBC track and field athletes bound for Wood Buffalo, Alberta, are SOBC – Burnaby athletes April Armstrong and Daniel Batson alongside SOBC – Langley athletes Abigale Calvert and Michael Savage. They’ll be backed by experienced athletics coaches Deborah Carter of SOBC – Surrey and Tom Norton of SOBC – Abbotsford.
Swimmers Cassey Davies of SOBC – Abbotsford, David Dunn of SOBC – Prince George, Taylor Hyde of SOBC – Vancouver, and Jesse Shade of SOBC – Campbell River will hit the pool in the Western Canada Games, supported by dedicated aquatics coaches Brianna Kowalski of SOBC – Abbotsford and Aaron Leontowich of SOBC – Kamloops.
Set to be held in Wood Buffalo, Alberta, on August 7 to 16, the 2015 Western Canada Games will bring together more than 2,500 athletes from Canada’s four western provinces and three northern territories to compete in 18 sports. Western Canada Games provide development opportunities for amateur athletes and to help them advance their skills in a competitive but friendly environment. The SOBC athletes will be members of Team BC alongside top generic-sport athletes, and will compete in Special Olympics divisions where they’ll represent B.C. with pride.
“The Western Canada Games are a fantastic avenue for B.C.’s best to showcase their skills, and I am really excited about the high calibre of coaches and athletes SOBC will be sending to represent the province in Alberta,” says Shawn Fevens, SOBC Manager, Sport. “The Games will be a great opportunity for top-level competition and an event where Special Olympics participants share the spotlight with generic athletes leading to true team camaraderie.”
We can’t wait to cheer them on this summer!
