Short track sells out Kin Centre
By Jennifer Scott, Team BC Mission Staff
Team BC’s short track speed skaters competed in the 1,500m for a sold out crowd.
The building was packed to the rafters and it was standing room only for the finals. The athletes gave the crowds a great show – complete with trademark, high velocity crashes and photo finishes.
Chris Poljer-So (New Westminster) placed 14th and Cormac Chui (Vancouver) placed 15th. Local favourites Alison Desmarais (Vanderhoof) and Callie Swan (Prince George) got a huge hometown cheer when they took the ice for their Final. Both athletes had a large contingent of friends and family in the crowd. Desmarais and Swan dug deep in a tough race and placed 10th and 11th respectively.
When asked what it’s like to compete in front of such a large and supportive crowd, Swan replied with, “I felt great about my race, and being able to compete in my home town. I’m just so happy Prince George is hosting these Games. I had so many friends and family in the crowd, even my grandma had a sign saying ‘go Callie go,’ it was fantastic!”
