Owen Bishop shoots a personal best in the 10m air rifle competition
By Heather Beatty, Team BC Mission Staff
Today in the men’s individual air rifle qualification event, Owen Bishop (Delta) shot a personal best of 588.7. Bishop beat his previous best score of 586.6, which he shot earlier this week at the team rifle event. The score put him in seventh place and he qualified for the final round.
At 15-years-old, he is younger and less experienced than most of the other shooters. However, he remained calm and even had a 10.9 (perfect score) on one of his shots. Bishop ended up placing fifth overall. When asked about his day, Bishop responded, “I am really proud of my results. Having shot a personal best, my overall ranking is not important to me.”
His results in today’s match will enable him to compete at the Junior National Championships this summer. Leia Hoot (Kamloops), who won a silver medal today, and Glenda Argenal (Delta) also had scores that will make them eligible to try out for the Junior National team.
