MISSION STAFF MONDAY – Marie-Pierre Lavoie
Marie-Pierre Lavoie, or as she is universally known – MP, is a true volunteer at heart. MP joined Team BC Mission Staff because she wanted to remove as many distractions as possible to allow the athletes the opportunity to perform their best. She truly is a model Mission Staffer for the rest of us!
A Montréal native, Marie-Pierre came to BC because of her interest in sport event planning and organizing. She worked at the 1999 Winnipeg Pan Am Games, at the Edmonton 2001 IAAF World Championships in Athletics, at the Edmonton 2005 World Masters Games, and at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
Her long-run with Team BC has included being on Mission Staff for the 2015 Wood Buffalo Western Canada Summer Games and the 2017 Canada Summer Games in Winnipeg. As someone with this much multi=games experience, we must ask her this:
What advice do you have for Team BC athletes heading to Red Deer?
Take it all in. Enjoy every moment of it and when your competition is done, take time to celebrate your accomplishments. (Is MP our very own Oprah?)
Fast Facts:
- Real Life Occupation: Professional Translator
- Favourite Colour: Navy Blue (a shade off Dave’s Jet Black!)
- Favourite Food: Escargots or Chocolate Mousse, I can’t decide (snails or chocolate… tough…)
- Favourite Quote: Everything happens for a reason (perfection)
- What is your most used emoji: Smiley Face (we definitely believe this… )
Marie-Pierre is fully bilingual and owns a translation business in Victoria. She is very involved as a volunteer with her sons’ and with the Commission nationale des parents francophones. She is Chair of the Board for the Victoria 2020 Canadian Francophone Games organizing committee.
Someone with all this free time must get so bored…
Additionally, she lets us know that she makes wedding cakes for close friends or family members who get married and knits baby blankets for friends and family who are expecting (told you – Oprah-esque)
What was the first concert you attended?
Duran Duran
What movie or TV Show title best describes your week?
The Good Fight (get it girl!)
Surprise, surprise – she also chose Team Canada as her favourite sports team. Are the Team BC Mission Staffers in an agreement to not pick any other teams?
MP literally keeps us all on track and we owe her everything for this – so please be sure to look out for her in the Team BC office in Red Deer and say hi!
