Mission Staff Monday – Jarret Poitras

Jarret, Potts, Gerald, JP, Daddy – whatever you call him, this is the man in charge – feel free to complain to him about anything you think requires attention. Just joking, but really…

As the Team BC Operations Manager for the BC Games Society, Jarret organizes and manages operational and logistical matters for Team BC, as well as provides support for the BC Summer and BC Winter Games.  Jarret works closely with the leadership and coaching staff for each of the PSOs that compete in the Games to enhance preparation and oversee administrative matters.

Why did you join Team BC Mission Staff?

I was first a Team BC Mission Staff volunteer in 2007, and haven’t ever left! That should say a lot about the program and the Canada Games experience. I’m hooked!

A true Canada Games veteran, Jarret is a wealth of knowledge for Team BC heading to Red Deer next month. Let’s dive a little deeper to see if we can all learn a thing or two about the infamous Jarret Poitras shall we…

What movie or TV show best describes your week?

Dazed and Confused (I have seen this movie, and I have many questions… )

What do you take the most pictures of?

GG and Rosebud, my two perfect daughter that own me (well isn’t that sweet!)

What was the best Halloween costume you ever had?

Phillip the Hyper Hippo from SNL (YES – CLASSIC)

What was the first concert you ever attended?

Beach Boys with opening act MC Hammer (okay okay… its HAMMER TIME!)

When you’re not working how do you spend your free time?

Walking around a golf course in a zig-zag fashion with a golf club in my hand looking for a white ball (RELATABLE) and spending any moment I can with my kids (GOALS)

Okay – deep thoughts time – what is your favourite quote?

“Forgive people – not for them but for yourself. Otherwise they live rent free in your head all day long.” – Jim Harris (DEEP and tragically true, lessons learned here today JP)

Jarret has previously worked with Rowing Canada, Camosun College, PacificSport Victoria, and the University of Ballarat (Australia).  He was the Assistant Manager of the national rowing team at the 2008 Olympic Summer Games, as well as Mission Staff for the 2011 Western Canada Summer Games and the 2013 Canada Summer Games, and Operations Manager for the 2015 Canada Winter Games and 2015 Western Canada Summer Games.

What is Jarret’s passion? His passion is volleyball – he played varsity indoor volleyball for the University of Victoria and was a Team BC athlete in beach volleyball.

Let’s not forget the Fast Facts about Jarret:

  • Favourite Colour: Literally everything in my closet is some shade of blue, so let’s go with blue! (like the sky or other? Asking for a friend)
  • Favourite Food: My mom’s pasta and Cobbs turkish salt & pepper bread with olive oil and balsamic (CARBS – I have seen JP on cheat day and it is ambitious! You go hard my friend!)
  • Favourite Sports Team: UVIc Vikes, Team Canada, Philadelphia Flyers, UNC Baby Blues (thumbs up!)

Well friends, that is Jarret. We are in good hands!

Closing thoughts:
It has been a pleasure introducing you to each member of our illustrious squad – hope you enjoyed the ride! See you in Red Deer. – Taunya
