Mission Staff Monday – Alana See

Alana See is another Team BC Mission Staff rookie – yes ANOTHER ROOKIE (who is in charge here???). Just joking, we know she will be a STAR! Working on the sport mission team, Alana will be focusing her time on Alpine, Para-Alpine Ski and Biathlon.

Currently working as a Sport Development Coordinator for PacificSport Fraser Valley, Alana works towards supporting sport in the community, from grassroots to high performance. Alana is passionate about staying active and using the power of sport to foster leadership and development.

When you’re not working, how do you spend your free time?

When I’m not working, you can find me at the gym, in the pool, at the rocking climbing wall or on a mountain. (it has been made clear we would never be able to find you with such a spread of locations to check!)

What was the first concert you attended?

Rascal Flatts with Taylor Swift opening, when she was still considered country. (I do love some Taylor Swift country!)

Alana was born and raised in Chilliwack, BC, where she grew up playing soccer, hiking, running, and swimming. She focused on competitive swimming and continued on to become a coach for the local swim team. While growing up and throughout school, Alana became a lifeguard and swim instructor. She continues in the aquatic field teaching lifesaving, water safety, and first aid courses on her days off.

Why did you join Team BC Mission Staff?

Because SPORTS! All jokes aside, I believe in the power of sport to foster leadership and development and provide people with skills that can transfer into many areas. I am excited to be a part of this opportunity to empower youth in sports. I know these athletes will gain a lifetime of memories and learn so much from this experience and I’m so excited that I can be a part of that! (SPORTS – am I right!?)

Fast Facts:

  • Favourite Colour: YELLOW – like sunflowers and the sun (we are onboard with this)
  • Favourite Food: Peanut butter! Specifically Adam’s natural peanut butter, eaten with a spoon. (favourite food and consumption method – bonus points earned)
  • Favourite Sports Team: Seeing as my occupation is a Sport Development Coordinator, I should probably have one of these… (I am still so puzzled that this is the TOUGHEST question of all on the interviews… I guess you don’t know till you ask!)
  • Favourite Quote:  “The truth is, nothing is guaranteed. So don’t be afraid, be alive.” – Sarah Dessen (preach!)
  • Nickname: Alan, Loony, Lily, Lanny…there are a lot. I’m not sure why people love to give me nicknames. (because it is FUN LANNY)

Alana attended the University of British Columbia, where she earned a Bachelor of Kinesiology, focusing on physical education and health promotion. Throughout her time there, she spent the majority of her days organizing intramural events for the UBC Community through her position as an Events Director with UBC Recreation.

What advice do you have for Team BC athletes heading to Red Deer?

Take it all in. Don’t forget to slow down and be present in the moment. And said best by Winnie the Pooh: always remember you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. (Christopher Robin approves!)

Welcome to the team Alana – ROOKIES UNITE!
