Men’s Softball finishes in ninth place

Team Alberta 9 Team BC 8

Team BC was topped by Alberta 9-8 Thursday afternoon.  BC appeared to be ready to avenge their opening game loss to their prairie neighbors, with the lead exchanging hands.  Some heady base running led to BC breaking the deadlock in the top of the 6th, but Alberta answered back in the bottom of the frame.  BC rallied to notch a run in the top of the 7th, only for Alberta to again respond with a pair in the bottom of the 7th inning, including a walk-off single to send them to the next round.

Josh Anderson (Surrey) and Isaac Goodwill (Chilliwack) both homered for BC.  Logan Groves (Smithers) and Brendon Alec (Burns Lake) combined to handle the pitching duties for BC today.

With this loss, Team BC is eliminated from playoff play and will finish 9th.  This is the first time men’s softball has been in Canada Games since 2005.  Seven BC athletes head immediately to Edmonton for the North American Indigenous Fastpitch Championships.  Special thanks goes to their coaching staff of Kevin Weir, Doug Chase, and Melanie Atkinson.
