Kristina Natalenko earns Team BC silver in a challenging day on the slopes

By Julianne Zussman, Team BC Mission Staff

Team BC continued to perform exceptionally well on day two of alpine racing at the 2015 Canada Winter Games.  The course was challenging but conditions were consistent throughout the day so all athletes were competing on an even field.  Kristina Natalenko (New Westminster) earned a silver medal and her teammates Ella Renzoni (West Vancouver) and Katie Fleckenstein (West Vancouver) finished eighth and 10th respectively.

The Team BC coaching staff was pleased with the team’s performance and optimistic that the skiers will benefit from this competition as preparation for the Federation International de Ski (FIS) U18 category, which starts next season for five of the seven racers.

“This is the longest giant slalom they have done, and will do, in their age group.  It was a long course, hard snow, and technical terrain – which is good preparation for FIS next year,” said head coach Justine Parent.  “This event gave them a taste of that level, and the girls are loving it.”
