Gymnasts enjoying day 1 in Wood Buffalo

12 gymnasts, 2 coaches, and 1 manager arrived in Wood Buffalo on August 6 from all over British Columbia. The Team have settled into the Athlete’s Village and have been enjoying the delicious food and having their own bedrooms.

After a successful training session this morning at Macdonald Island Park, the gymnasts attended the Team BC Pep Rally where Alia Wilson (Prince George) won the #WEareBC Spirit Contest for her photo submission jumping high for Team BC on the trampoline.

Later the Team attended the Opening Ceremony at Shell Place where their enthusiasm was contagious and they enjoyed trading games pins with athletes from other Provinces. Both Team BC coaches, Richard Ikeda and Olga Matagonova will be attending the 2015 World Championships in Glasgow, Scotland this fall. Richard will be a coach for Team Canada and Olga as a judge, representing Kazakhstan.

On Saturday they plan to take advantage of a final training day and will then be cheering on their fellow Team BC Judo and Wrestling athletes.
