Day three action in Volleyball
WOMEN
Team BC 1 Team Nova Scotia 3 (25-27, 25-14, 21-25, 24-26)
Team BC Women’s volleyball team were closely matched with Team Nova Scotia at the Sport for Life Centre. In the first set, there were many lead changes and at one point the set was tied 25-25 until Nova Scotia pulled ahead to win.
Rain cancelled a few sports so the stands were full of athletes from other disciplines. Canoe/Kayak were able to get out and watch the girls play. “It’s pretty cool to get out and watch different sports, we normally don’t get many opportunities.”
Team BC dominated the second set 25-14 to tie the match at 1-1.
Another tight set in the third at 25-20 had Nova Scotia ahead 2-1.
Team Nova Scotia came out tough in the forth set going up 6-1 to start. BC were able to come back to tie the game at 24-24, until Nova Scotia eventually won 26-24
Team BC 3 Team Manitoba 1 (25-17, 25-17, 22-25, 25-20)
After being defeated earlier this afternoon the Team BC players were still upbeat and looking forward to playing Manitoba. Despite playing before a large hostile crowd in the packed Investors Group Athletic Centre, the team looked loose and stormed out to win the first and second set 25-17, 25-17 win.
Team Manitoba came out strong in the third set and had a 12-4 lead. The IGAC was rockin’ . Team BC came back to tie it at 13-13 and 22-22. Toba won a huge rally and eventually won the set 25-22.
Team BC stayed calm and the fourth set was back and forth with a 5-5 start, tied again at 10-10 and finished 24-19. Captain Kiera Van Ryk (Surrey) had a solid match for Team BC.
Unfortunately, that will not be enough for Team BC to make it into the medal round. On record they tie with Nova Scotia but lose on head to head record. The team will now play for seventh.
MEN
Team BC 3 vs Team PEI 1
Team BC Men’s volleyball team were in action against Team PEI at the Investor’s Group Athletic Centre this afternoon.
Team BC rolled to a comfortable three set victory. Winning 25-16, 25-17 and 25-.
Evan Veldman (Terrace) and Michael Dowhaniuk (Surrey) had strong games for Team BC.
