Déjà vu for Team BC at Tabor Mountain

By Drew Todd, Team BC Mission Staff

Team BC wrapped up their second straight successful day on the slopes by dominating the freestyle skiing big air event.  Twenty-four hours after winning the gold in slopestyle, Teal Harle (Whistler) and Elena Gaskell (Vernon) repeated the feat with two gold medals in big air.  Adding to the total was Sofiane Gagnon (Whistler) with her second bronze in the women’s event.  The conditions were fantastic as the mountain received a nice dump of snow in the morning, but clear, sunny skies were out to showcase the athletes’ performances.

Jeremy Cooper, BC Freestyle Ski Association’s head coach of the BC Pipe and Park Team, was extremely pleased with the outcome, “I’m really excited about how we did.  With so little funding, to get the results we did was a great accomplishment.”  In fact, without a late adjustment to the schedule, Cooper, along with Harle and teammate Patrick Dew (Coldstream) might not have been able to attend the Games at all.  The three of them head out to Aspen, Colorado on a late flight Sunday to try and keep their momentum going.

The competition schedule takes a day off for training on Monday, but the moguls events get under way with single moguls on Tuesday and dual moguls on Wednesday.  Moguls specialists Mackenzie Schwinghamer (Kelowna), Madison Parker (Port Moody), Noah Spence (Penticton) and Kyle Parker (Port Moody), look to join their teammates on the podium.
