Team BC topped the medal count and flag points and won the Western Canada Summer Games Trophy for the 11th consecutive time.
After 10 days of competition at the 2015 Western Canada Summer Games in Fort McMurray, Alta. BC wrapped up competition Sunday with a medal total of 134 gold, 86 silver, 61 bronze and a grand total of 280 medals won.
Team BC had a nearly flawless day at the Fort McMurray Golf Club, with the women sweeping the podium and men taking gold and silver medals for the individual competitions.
After a loss to Alberta yesterday, Team BC bounced back to win gold in badminton. They were inspired by long-time coach, Abdul Shaikh, who will retire after these Games.
The women’s volleyball team took gold against Alberta and the men’s team won silver in a hard fought battle also against Alberta.
After three days of triple headers and finals Team BC came out on top with the gold medal with an 11-0 win over Team Alberta.
BC triathletes Desirae Ridenour, Hannah Henry, Brennen Smith and Michael Milic overcame huge time to day come out on top in the mixed relay and lifting BC’s total to 5 medals in triathlon.
Campbell River’s Jesse Shade, captured five gold medals in the pool for Team BC and will carry the flag during the 2015 Western Canada Summer Games closing ceremony at 5pm on Sunday August 16.
