BC swims to double gold in 4x200m freestyle relay

Team BC had a successful opening day of competition in the pool at MacDonald Island Park today, Aug. 13. BC swimmers combined for 25 medals (11 gold, nine silver and six bronze). Both 4x200m relay teams captured gold to wrap up the successfully evening of finals. 

Tai Long Singh (Point Roberts) stepped on to the top of the podium three times today after winning gold in the 100m freestyle, 100m backstroke and the 4x200m freestyle relay. Ian Jay-Ralston (Campbell River) excelled in the pool in para swimming. Jay-Ralston took home gold in the 100m freestyle and 100m backstroke. Mackenzie Padington (Campbell River) won gold in the 400m individual medley and the 4x200m freestyle alongside teammates Molly Gowans (Victoria), Megan Dalke (Kamloops) and Jessie Gibson (Abbotsford).

Earlier in the morning Gowans also won gold in the 1500m freestyle, while team mate Brooke Lamoureux took silver. Jesse Shade dominated the 100m freestyle and 50m backstroke Special Olympics races winning gold in each.

Expect to see more from Team BC swimmers as competition continues Aug. 14.
