Alpine skier Roxy Coatesworth to lead BC into Closing Ceremony in PEI

Alpine skier Roxy Coatesworth (Golden) will carry the BC flag into the Closing Ceremony of the PEI 2023 Canada Winter Games after winning four gold medals at the Games. The Closing Ceremony will take place on Sunday at 3:30 PT (7:30 AT) at the Eastlink Centre in Charlottetown.

“We‘re incredibly proud to have Roxy lead Team BC into the Closing Ceremony,” says BC Chef de Mission Kurt Innes. “She has proven her abilities and set the standard for success on the slopes, but she has also proven to be an exceptional person and leader when she‘s not competing.”

Coatesworth set the standard at Crabbe Mountain in New Brunswick, winning every single individual run on the way to gold in all three alpine events. She finished up the Games in PEI by winning gold in the ski cross event.

“’Being chosen to hold the flag is a huge honour,” says Coatesworth. “It’s amazing to be able to represent everyone back home and all the athletes around me. I’m proud that I can be looked upon as a good representative for BC.”

The top-ranked U16 alpine skier in Canada, Coatesworth entered the Games with high expectations and has exceeded them so far. But the Golden native is quick to credit others for her success.

“I wouldn’t be here without all of my support from my family, friends, coaches, sponsors, and so many more,” says Coatesworth. “All of my results this week happened with them at my side.”

Coatesworth is an alumnus of the 2020 BC Winter Games in Fort St. John, where she won the slalom event at the age of 13.

Team BC enters the final day of competition at the PEI 2023 Canada Winter Games on Sunday already possessing a record 98 medals and 44 gold medals with a chance to bring home more. The previous highs for BC were 30 gold medals in Red Deer 2019 and 88 total medals at the 2011 Games in Halifax and the 2015 Games in Prince George.
