A split day results in a 4-1 record for Team BC in curling

Today was a pivotal day in determining Team BC’s placement in their pool. They started off the day going up against Team PEI. Team BC scored two in the first end and was able to hold Team PEI to one point in the second. A big three pointer in the third end gave them a comfortable four point lead. Team PEI took a point in the fourth, and in the fifth a measure was needed to determine who was shot rock, which resulted in Team PEI stealing one.
After five ends of play, Team BC still held a two point lead and extended that to three after a score of one in the sixth. Team PEI was unable to score again, with Team BC stealing one in the seventh and another two in the eighth, to make the final score 9-3.
Their second game of the day was against Team Ontario, who was also undefeated in the pool. The game started off a little rocky, with Team BC allowing Team Ontario to steal two points. The teams traded single points for the next three ends. In the fifth, the momentum seemed to shift Team BC’s way, with a steal of one to tie the game. In the sixth however, Team Ontario took a two-point lead, swinging the advantage back in their favour. Team BC blanked the seventh and then took two points in the eighth to tie the game again. A few missed shots in the critical ninth end allowed Team Ontario to get another two points. Unfortunately, Team BC went into the last end down two with hammer. Although there were multiple times throughout the game where Team BC had been down and was able to fight back, they couldn’t quite pull it off in the end. Team Ontario ran Team BC out of rocks making the final score 7-5.
Despite the disappointing loss this afternoon, Team BC has already secured a spot in the quarterfinals. Their final game of pool play takes place tomorrow against Team Saskatchewan, which will determine whether Team BC finishes second or third in their pool and whom they will face in the crossover.
