10 Team BC Alumni named to 2015 Pan Am Games Swimming Team
The Canadian Olympic Committee and Swimming Canada announced the swimming athletes nominated to represent Team Canada at the TORONTO 2015 Pan American Games from July 10 to 26.
Of the 36 athletes named to the team, 12 are from British Columbia and 10 have competed for Team BC at the Canada Summer Games or Western Canada Summer Games. Four of the athletes are also alumni of the BC Games.
Leading the team will be two-time Olympian and two-time Olympic medallist, Ryan Cochrane who will be making his Pan Am Games debut and also holds six FINA World Championship medals.
Cochrane and the rest of the Canadian men will be joined by a strong women’s team that features international medallist Hilary Caldwell.
Five of the Team BC and BC Games alumni will also represent Canada at the FINA World Championships in Kazan, Russia.
The Canadian swimmers are looking to surpass their Guadalajara 2011 success where they won four medals in the swimming pool. Canada’s best-ever Pan Am performance in the pool came in 1999, where swimmers won 31 medals – including 13 gold – in Winnipeg.
The swimming competition will take place at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre from July 14–18, with 32 events.
