Local biathlete, Emily Dickson, skis fast to win bronze

Under beautiful sunny conditions, four Team BC athletes competed in the men’s individual 15km biathlon.  Arthur Roots (Prince George) placed sixth, Jarod Algra (Abbotsford) placed 17th, Bobby Kreitz (Prince George) placed 21st and Emile Vogel-Nakamura (Camrose) placed 25th.

In the women’s individual 12.5km competition, Emily Dickson (Prince George) took the bronze medal.  Dickson had the fastest time of the day and was excited to be on the podium.  “Today was a whirlwind of emotions for sure.  I skied well and shot well for the first two rounds but then had a few misses in my shooting so had to ski fast to make up the time.  I guess I did that well and pulled off the bronze,” said Dickson.

Other competing athletes were Claire Lapointe (Prince George), placing 11th, Jennah Smailes (West Kelowna), placing 13th, and Tekarra Banser (West Kelowna), placing 15th.

“It was great today with the home pressure.  The athletes also put a lot of pressure on themselves but we want them to have fun ultimately.  We have three more races so this is a really great start that we can build on,” said coach Glen Rupertus.
