Team BC archers right on target as qualifying rounds begin

Stretching their bows for the first time in competition at the 2015 Canada Winter Games, Team BC archers fired through round one of the qualifying rounds for compound and recurve events with great results.
Tony Procter (Prince George) finished second in compound, only one point down from the men’s leader, Keenan Brown from Manitoba. “It was a great battle today for us”, said Procter excitedly. “I love how close the competition is. We’re up against great archers from the other provinces and I’m happy that I’m shooting well.” For the women, Emerie Watson (Quesnel), finished in a tie for sixth place and is in good shape for tomorrow’s second round.
In recurve, Levi Kelbert (Kelowna) finished third in a closely fought battle, while Mya Shouwenburg (Prince George) shot consistently to finish mid pack for the women. “There is another full day tomorrow and I’m looking forward to putting myself in a good position for the final by the end of the round,” said Shouwenburg.
Each archer shoots 60 arrows within each of the two qualifying rounds and their total score seeds them for the medal round.
Round two continues with recurve at 9 a.m. and compound at 2:30 p.m. at the Northern Sports Centre. Tuesday will be the exciting final for both the recurve and compound events.
