Men’s gymnastics team captures bronze in the team event

By Danielle Williams, Team BC Mission Staff

Team BC men’s gymnastics team captured the bronze medal in the men’s team event Monday night.  The team, consisting of Aaron Mah (Vancouver), Cameron Stanley (Cultus Lake), Darren Wong (Vancouver), Michael Sibley (North Vancouver), Steven Chaplin (Mission) and Alexander Farquharson (Delta), placed third behind Ontario and Quebec.  The team, energized by the hometown crowd, had strong showings in the high bar and floor exercise events.  Mah, the top ranked Team BC member and team captain, had the fourth highest combined score of the competition.

“I am really proud of the team today.  We were really supportive of each other and stuck our routines when it really counted” said Mah.

Mah along with Chaplin and Sibley have qualified for the men’s all around competition taking place Wednesday at UNBC. The women’s gymnastics team continues competition on Tuesday with Shallon Olsen (Surrey), Clair Kaji (Vancouver) and Itzia San Roman (Burnaby) competing in the women’s all around event.
