Team BC faces off against Team Manitoba in Game 2
Game 2: Team BC vs. Manitoba
Following a late 5-3 victory over New Brunswick Team BC was ready to take on Manitoba in their second game of the 2015 Canada Winter Games. Concern was raised early in the game when BC’s Jordan Bellerive (North Vancouver) went down following a knee by Manitoba’s Cayden Kraus. Kraus received 5 minutes and a game misconduct on the play. Team BC was unable to capitalize on the ensuing power play, yielding only 2 shots. After Team BC kill over 1 minute of a 5 on 3, the game picked up pace near the end of the period. Manitoba beat Team BC goaltender Dorrin Sekikawa-Luding (Prince George) with a snipe top shelf from Brett Davis with 39 seconds left in the period.
Five minutes into the second period, Team BC Captain Jordan Bellerive received a game misconduct for hitting from behind. Soon after killing off the penalty, Manitoba’s Brett Davis notched his second goal on a centering play from the corner that bounced off the goaltender and in, bringing the score to 2-0.
Team BC responded with two quick goals only 13 seconds apart to tie the game. The first goal came as Brendan Semchuk (Kamloops) received a beautiful pass from Sandu (Richmond) alone in the slot. Semchuk roofed it over the Manitoba goaltender to put BC on the board. Assists went to Justin Almeida (Kitimat) and Jordan Sandhu at 14:48 in the second. BC’s second goal game shortly after with a point shot from Jake Harrison (West Kelowna), assists from Jordan Sandhu and Nolan Kneen (Kelowna).
Manitoba was not a team to back down and responded just over a minute and a half later with a goal of their own to regain the lead. After a series of penalties against BC, Manitoba forward Tyler Campbell batted the puck out of the air on a 5 on 3 to make the score 4 to 2 with 18.9 seconds left in the second.
Team BC dominated the third period but wasn’t able to bury the puck. Manitoba scored another with the goalie pulled to bring the final to 5-2. Shots were 28 to 21 in favour of BC.
Team BC takes on Team Ontario Tuesday, February 24 at 7:35pm in the CN Center.
