Great Games for Team BC Tennis

There were many stories from the 2015 Western Canada Summer Games for these athletes and coaches, great tennis, gold medal performances, heart breaking defeats, opening ceremonies, pep rallies, pin trading, laughter, tears, boo yourself, 26, awesome food and new friends.

Some stories stand out like the team being stranded on the highway with a broken down bus in the way to the athletes village. A nice way to be welcomed to Wood Buffalo. I knew we had some special players when they took that in stride and just considered it part of the adventure.

Team gold and the epic Mixed Doubles tie breaker match where Jerry Huang and Sasha Vagramov destroyed the opponents for the win.

Jerry was also part of another great performance where he overcame a bee sting on the hand and still managed to win the men’s singles. The fact that 7 kids out-cheered a whole province during that game was also very memorable and showed that these individuals had become a team. In fact a parent from Alberta said “if they had a medal for cheering they would have won gold”.

All these stories will become memories that they will have forever and is the reason we have games like these. I will always remember them as my golden team.
