BC Sailing selects seven athletes to Team BC for 2017 Canada Summer Games
BC Sailing is proud to announce the seven athletes who will be representing Team BC at the 2017 Canada Summer Games in Winnipeg from July 28 to August 13.

Henrik Moberg Parker, Royal Vancouver Yacht Club (North Vancouver) – 29er Male
Josh Smithman, Royal Vancouver Yacht Club (White Rock) – 29er Male
Emily Bugeja, Royal Vancouver Yacht Club (North Vancouver) – 29er Female
Hannah Smith, Royal Vancouver Yacht Club (White Rock) – 29er Female
John Owen has been racing at Royal Victoria Yacht Club for several years and recently finished 9th place at the Laser Midwinters West in Los Angeles. He is also a coach in the summer sailing programs when not training.
Delani Hulme Lawrence is originally from Alberta and represented team Alberta at the 2013 Canada Games before moving to BC to coach at the Royal Victoria Yacht Club. She will compete in the para category in the 2.4 mR boat. In addition to racing, she heads up a large french immersion school sailing program, works as a Learning Facilitator teaching other instructors, and is currently completing her Competition Development coaching certification.
In the 29er class, newly formed team of Henrik Moberg Parker and Josh Smithman, as well as Emily Beugeja and Hannah Smith will bring their experience and training to this competition. Both teams had successful results at the Midwinters West regatta in San Diego in March.
“There are a lot of talented sailors in BC, and selection to the team is no small feat. We are proud of this year’s team and really looking forward to seeing them perform against the rest of the country this summer,” said Jen Braem with BC Sailing.
Upcoming competitions for the selected athletes include the Laser and Radial North Americans regatta, June 21-25 and the WAVES Regatta June 30-July 2 for Laser, Radial and 29ers. Both events will be held at the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club.
The sailing competition at the Canada Summer Games will take place during week one of competition, July 28 to August 4 at Gimli Yacht Club.

The Canada Games are a national multi-sport competition with participation from every province and territory in Canada. The Games are held every two years, alternating between winter and summer. The 2017 Canada Summer Games will be held July 28 to August 13 in Winnipeg, bringing together approximately 4000 athletes, coaches, and managers from every province and territory to compete in 16 sports. The Canada Games will celebrate their 50th anniversary in 2017 coinciding with Canada’s 150th birthday.
