Team BC loses baseball opener to Team Alberta

It was a tough start to the 2017 Canada Games baseball tournament for Team BC as what coach Cav Whitely called “passive play” cost the BC boys early. Alberta scored three runs in the first and one more in the second inning to jump out to an early 4-0 lead. Team BC came to life in the bottom of the sixth when Damiano Palmegiani (Cloverdale) hit a home run. But that was pretty much it for BC as Alberta exploded for six runs in the 7th on its way to a 12-2 win.

Quotes:

Coach – WHITELY, Cav (New Westminster)
On the slow start to the game

“We came out very passive in that first game. I’m hoping that the guys now will have an idea of what the tournament’s about and we’re going to come together here fairly quick because we have to. It’s a short sprint to see who makes the medal round.”

PALMEGIANI, Damiano (Chilliwack)
On his team’s performance

“I guess we were kind of excited and sometimes the nerves get the best of you. But this is a good group. (Our game) is nothing to be smiling about. I hope next game, we come out firing and take the win. We are better than what we showed now.”
