Team BC triathletes dominate for gold women’s relay

The women’s triathlon team showed their dominance today in the relay event with a gold medal performance.

The race consists of three athletes, all of whom complete a 250m swim, a 6.6km bike and a 1.4km run, with the last runner doing 1.6km to the finish line.

The lead racer for Team BC was Hannah Henry (Victoria), the silver medalist from the individual sprint event earlier in the week.  She was behind coming out of the water but worked on the bike to close the gap and took the lead in the run to hand off to the gold medalist from the individual event, Desirae Ridenour (Cowichan Bay).

Ridenour led start to finish and by the time she tagged off to anchor Holly Henry had built the lead even further.  It was smooth sailing as Holly, who had mechanical issues on the bike in the individual event, widened the gap and finished in first place with a two minute and 14 second lead over the silver medalists Team Manitoba.
