Team BC cyclists race to gold and bronze in the time trials
Team BC cyclists raced against the clock at Birds Hill Provincial Park on Tuesday, won two medals and posted multiple top 10 finishes at the Canada Summer Games.
In the women’s 13-km time trial event, Gillian Ellsay (Courtenay) took gold ahead of racers from Quebec who won silver and bronze.
In the men’s 21-km time trial, Jay Lamoureux (Victoria) won bronze. Cyclists from Quebec won gold and silver.
“We came here to train and get a few medals,” said coach Richard Wooles (North Vancouver) following the races. “We’ve got lots of depth. For all of these young riders, it’s something that will stay with them for the rest of their lives. It’s a great day for Team BC.”
Birds Hill Provincial Park also hosted cycling events at the 1999 Pan American Games.

Ya, I heard the BC guys in the car honking and hollering and I saw the finish line up ahead, so I gave it everything I had.”

“This is my first multisport Games. I am hoping to go to the Commonwealth Game in 2018. I think is a good experience.I saw the women’s and men’s volleyball last night, so it was really cool to get out there and meet other athletes.”
