Two more dominant wins for Team BC softball

Team BC 15, Team Newfoundland 0
British Columbia continued the offensive onslaught Tuesday morning, starting the day off with 6 runs in the first inning against Newfoundland/Labrador.  They added another nine in the third inning to force the early mercy.

Keeley Ainge (Delta) retired all nine batters she faced across three innings, four of them coming on strikeouts.  Taylor Lundrigan (Abbotsford) went 3/3 with two RBI’s and two runs scored, and Danielle De Ruiter (Surrey) went 2/2 with a long triple in the first inning.

I felt pretty good going through my bullpen, and it was great having the support of my teammates when we were at the plate.  Having a big lead early meant that I wasn’t feeling any pressure; it’s very easy to stay loose and carefree when you’re up

On staying mentally and physically sharp when the team is having a long rally at bat
“It can be a challenge but it’s a good problem to have.  What I like to do is talk with Jordan [catcher], we talk about pitch sequences and game plans for upcoming hitters.  That keeps me engaged and ready to go.”

Team BC 16, Team New Brunswick 1
After a quieter start than in the previous three games, BC rallied for a massive 15 run inning in the bottom of the third, forcing their fourth consecutive mercy.  The team batted around twice in the final inning, with Taylor Gillis coming to the plate three times, and was at the dish for the play that clinched the mercy. 

Keeley Ainge picked up her second win of the day from the pitching circle.  Jordan Britten-Yung (Richmond) and Lauren Watson (Port Moody) led an offense that had contributions from everywhere in the lineup.

On the teams slower start
“Falling behind early put us in a pressure situation, which tested us in a way that we haven’t been yet.  It can really be beneficial to face a little bit of adversity, good teams manage to stay patient, stay positive and relaxed.  Hopefully we can continue to do that as we go forward in the tournament.”

Team BC will play PEI at 3:00 CST and then Manitoba at 7:08 CST on Wednesday.  The game against hometown Team Manitoba will be televised on TSN.
