Softball finishes pool play with a win over Sask

BC 6, Sask 1
In the final game of the round robin Friday, BC topped Saskatchewan by a score of 6-1.  The teams swapped zero’s before BC erupted for 6 runs in the top of the fifth inning.  Saskatchewan got one run back in the bottom of the 6th, but that was all that BC would yield.  BC kept a clean slate in the field, playing error-free ball behind starter Julia Wright (Langley).

Julia went the distance to collect her 5th win of the tournament.  She surrendered only 5 hits over 7 innings.  The infield recorded all 21 putouts on the day, thanks to some excellent control by Julia that resulted in a lot of easy ground balls.  The top of the order carried the day at the plate, with the 1-2-3 hitters Taylor Gillis (Langley), Kolby Hamilton (Surrey) and Callum Pilgrim (Abbottsford) all collecting 2 hits a piece.  They added a combined  3 runs scored, and 2 RBI’s courtesy of Callum.

With this win, BC finishes second in pool play.  They will face off against first place Ontario at 10 AM Saturday.  A win in that game will put them directly into the gold medal game on Sunday.
