Trampoline wins bronze medal for Team BC
On a day where everything came together, Team BC was able to secure the bronze medal in the team event at Trampoline at the 2019 Canada Winter Games. Maja Bonham (Vancouver), Jordyn Yendley (Kelowna), Gavin Dodd (Kamloops) and Declan McLean (Burnaby) were all recipients of the bronze medal today.
This bronze medal in the 2019 Canada Winter Games marks a repeat medal for Trampoline, as Team BC took the bronze in the 2015 Canada Winter Games in Prince George.
“Today we went 40 for 40 in our tricks. Each athlete had to perform 10 tricks perfectly in their own routine, and it was truly a team effort. Our first jumpers knocked it out of the park, removing the pressure from our other two athletes and allowing them the freedom to really go for it and lay down extraordinary routines. We are very proud today,” said Matt Wheele, head coach of Team BC trampoline.
Team BC was up first in Flight 1 with Nova Scotia. First up was Gavin Dodd laying down a solid performance right out of the gates with a 53.185, sinking him a close second place score against the top Nova Scotia athlete. Maja was up next and also delivered a very solid and technical performance, with a score of 48.865. Declan with third and should be very happy with his performance scoring just behind teammate Maya, with a score of 48.625. Jordyn took the anchor of Team BC and rounded it off with yet another flawless routine with a score of 47.950.
The top two scores for male and female are counted towards the team, thus resulting in Gavin and Maja’s combined score of 102.05. Against the flight competitors (Nova Scotia), BC took the 2 – 5th ranked spots. Manitoba and New Brunswick competed in flight 2, not upsetting Team BC’s overall score. Third flight was Alberta and Newfoundland, the first time Newfoundland has sent a team to the Canada Games. Team Alberta had very strong performances from their seniors, with their top male Zachary Blakely scoring just under Gavin Dodd with a score of 52.895 and their top female with a score of 52.240 from Kalena Soehn.
Flight four competed last with teams Ontario and Quebec both strong competitors. Remi Aubin from Quebec scored a huge 56.905 upsetting Gavin’s top results to 3rd place for the men, then with Benjamin Lagace from QC bumping everyone down a sport as he took the second place finish for the men.
Quebec and Alberta have strong seniors on their team, as well as Ontario being a serious contender. With a team of all juniors Team BC pulled out all the stops tonight and scored
