Training day at Canyon for Alpine Ski

Friday was a training day for the Alpine athletes. Athletes arrived at 8:00am and started training runs at 10:15am. They did individual runs of the ski cross course first and then in the afternoon, they trained for heats, which means they will practice doing the course with multiple athletes at the same time. In ski cross, there are heats with athletes going at the same time. In the evening, the athletes prepped their skis for Saturday’s race. They need at least three pairs of skis to make it through all the qualification rounds without wearing down the wax and prep on their skis.

Saturday, the athletes will do qualification rounds in the morning and then the race heats in the afternoon. They need to qualify in the top half of the field in order to make it to the race heats, which means they need to come in the top 32 of the field. After that the race heats will begin, and they must continue qualifying to get to the final round. If you place higher in your qualification round, you will race against slower racers, giving you an advantage in the next race.
