Team BC is a collaborative effort of partners to prepare, select and service athletes and coaches to ensure optimal performance at Games.
BC Games Society
The BC Games Society has been responsible for staging the BC Winter and BC Summer Games since 1978. Experts in multi-sport Games management, the organization assumed responsibility for Team BC in 2013. This work includes appointing the Chef de Mission for each Games, setting policies, creating partnerships, and implementing the operational functions of the program.
Canada Games Council
The Canada Games brings together more than 2,000 able-bodied athletes and athletes with physical and intellectual disabilities for the largest amateur multi-sport event in the country. Alternating between winter and summer, they span over 30 different sports to showcase the very best in Canadian sport and spirit.
Government of British Columbia
The Province of BC through the Sport Branch of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sports is responsible for British Columbia’s participation in the Canada Games. This includes policies and funding to support the Team BC program as well as intergovernmental relations, appointing representatives to Games committees and support of the Games when they are hosted in our province.
Canadian Sport Institute Pacific
Canadian Sport Institute Pacific works with national and provincial partners and a team of sport scientists and medical experts to provide programs and services to athletes and coaches to ensure they have every advantage to win medals for Canada. With that expertise, the organization takes the lead to coordinate the Games Prep Program for Team BC in preparation for the Canada Games.
ViaSport British Columbia
viaSport British Columbia is responsible for providing strategic leadership to sport in B.C. and increasing levels of physical activity at every stage of life, in every community. Formed in partnership with the provincial sport sector and the Province of BC, viaSport is shaping a new, more effective model for sport delivery and funding support which drives increased participation, powers sport excellence and promotes British Columbia as a sport hosting destination.
SportMedBC
SportMedBC is works with sport medical and paramedical practitioners in British Columbia to promotes leadership, public awareness and education in the areas of sport medicine, sport science and sport training. The organization dedicates a staff member to manage the provision of sport science and medicine support services to Team BC athletes and coaches.
Provincial and Disability Sport Organizations
Accredited sport organizations are the provincial authoritative bodies for a sport or sport discipline and are responsible for the sport’s oversight, growth, and development, as acknowledged by their National Sport Organization (NSO).
These Provincial and Disability Sport Organizations (PSO and DSO) bring together their best athletes to compete at the Canada Winter or Canada Summer Games.
